01 / The challenge
Easy to explain. Hard to sustain.
Comparing supermarket and fuel prices sounds simple until you have to gather the information. Every retailer publishes it differently, it changes daily, and none of them hand it over ready to use.
The brief had two fronts. An app anyone could use without thinking, and the data infrastructure feeding it — which is where the real work sits, and what decides whether the product still holds up after the first month.
02 / The solution
What we built: app, data and control panel.
A cross-platform application for comparing supermarket and fuel prices. Location brings the comparison down to the shops a user actually has nearby, and nutritional information means the decision is not driven by price alone.
Underneath it, a web data extraction system that keeps prices current, an API that serves them to the app, and an administration dashboard that runs the whole thing. Four pieces, one product.
- An app, not a spreadsheet. People compare product, retailer and distance on one screen. The complexity of the data stays on the server.
- Prices keep themselves current. Web data extraction updates the catalogue with no manual work. That is what keeps the comparison useful over time.
- The client runs the product. The administration dashboard is part of the delivery. Nobody has to call us for every change.
